Shopping Locally Improves El Dorado County Economics
Neighboromics’ goal is to stimulate economic activity by supporting El Dorado County businesses as a means of creating and preserving jobs and creating sales tax revenue for the county infrastructure.
Neighboromics shall promote the consumer’s awareness of their importance in our community’s economy, to reinforce our county’s employment base, law enforcement, fire safety, roads, and public health.
- Many millions of dollars are spent annually by El Dorado County residents for goods and services outside our county.
- This amounts to a loss of millions of dollars in tax revenues to El Dorado County.
According to a 2003 study*, El Dorado County is losing over $1 million in sales tax per year through the purchase of new vehicles by El Dorado County residents purchasing outside of the county. The figure of $1 million represents the loss of sales tax revenue attributed to the purchase of only one product line - new vehicles. The figure would be much higher if all product lines and services were to be analyzed.
